On Friday July 27th at the Robin Hood Social Heros Awards held in St Mathews in the city Auckland the Inaugural Prime Ministers Social Hero’s Award winner was announced
After 5 years of campaigning to see corporate social responsibility move from the margins of business dialogue into the main stream the board decided it was about time that business investing socially should be applauded and acknowledged” said Robin Hood CEO Jude Mannion
The winner of the prime ministers social hero award was House of Travel for their relationship with Hospice NZ .
Judges noted the partnership active since Sept 2005 had demonstrated a willingness to go into a sensitive area. They could not mandate across 90 independently owned outlets. Instead they were successful in selling in the spirit of this partnership – and the experience of understanding hospices
Through their 90 outlets House of travel fundraises nearly half a million dollar a year for the charity and most of their 1100 staff work at hospices as volunteers
The other winners were :
Fairfax Social Hero Award for Education Partnership was won by IBM for their Kids smart program. One of the most significant in size and value terms partnership into youth sector in the country IBM places learning units into low decile kindergartens and trains staff . Value to date $2Million Plus
More FM Social Hero Award for Youth Partnership was won by The Professionals Real Estate Group and Child Cancer Foundation
This partnership was noted for getting involved with their partner 12 years ago-
And providing sustainability by contributing to the cause from every house sales commission The partnership has resulted in a total of five houses being purchased by the Child Cancer foundation
Robin Hood Social Hero Award for Family Safety was won by BNZ for their Preventing Violence in the Home partnership
The judges noted this was Unique because most sponsors shy away from the difficult topic of family violence. They saw this relationship as a brave step that had successfully promoted awareness and backed an unknown and logistically formidable fundraising campaign – Get Organized Auckland
Robin Hood Social Hero Award for Sustained Partnership was won by
BP and Surf Lifesaving
Unique because it the longest standing partnership in the country,40 years old. And delivers totally measurable results year on year ,.It has remained true to its mission –
Robin Hood Social Hero Award for Inspiring New Partnership
Progressive Enterprises and Red Cross – Breakfast In Schools
Judges comments were this was unique because of the potential for this to be huge. A practical sensible alignment , that targets poverty. Launched 2006 and trialed for one year prior to media launch .Stated commitment to provide breakfast for free to all decile one schools who apply ( total in NZ 260)
