Nightside Test Design Expands To Auckland Market
Press release, 20-Dec-06, Nightside Test Design Christchurch, New Zealand: Embedded electronics testing company
Nightside Test Design has successfully relocated outside of the Canterbury Innovation Incubator – and simultaneously
entered the Auckland market with a new branch.
Founded in 2001, Nightside entered the incubator in 2004 as a company with a full time staff of one and several
contractors, and has emerged with a team of seven, including four full time test engineers and the appointment of
Nagendra Gangadharan as field sales engineer in Auckland.
Over the last two years Nightside's business has grown significantly, with double digit growth each year, and a massive
leap of 135% growth with turnover of $500,000 predicted to the end of the 2006/7 financial year, and further strong
growth on the books for 2008.
Managing director Peter Brown sees the Auckland market as the next logical step for Nightside, which numbers many of the
major players in the embedded electronics industry – Tait Electronics, Whispertech, Humanware, Dynamic Controls, amongst
its client base.
"Christchurch has up to 40% of the electronics output in New Zealand and Auckland is close behind with around 30%, so
it's the logical next step for the company," Brown said.
New staff member Nagendra Gangadharan comes to Nightside from Glidepath, and prior to that, spent 11 years lecturing in
electronic and electrical engineering at the Singapore Polytechnic.
Brown says Gangadharan is going to be a significant asset to Nightside due to his extensive experience with LabVIEW
during his years in Singapore and his contacts in the Auckland region.
The company has its sights set beyond New Zealand in the longer term, but is looking to consolidate its presence in
Christchurch and Auckland, operating outside the incubator environment.
"The incubator provided invaluable contacts and access to new networks (including other companies in the incubator) and
business referrals that have turned into valuable new clients for Nightside," Brown said.
CEO of Cii (Canterbury Innovation Incubator), Stephen Hampson, says Nightside is on a "high growth" path.
"Nightside is on a high growth trajectory with doubled revenue, major increases in staff numbers and excellent
prospects. Perhaps most importantly, they have created a viable business model for future growth, which is a challenge
for a service oriented company," Hampson points out.
"Significantly, they have developed a process and system that adds real value for their customers, and that can be
duplicated into other locations in New Zealand and Australia."
