Fonterra Appoints New Head Of Human Resources
Fonterra Co-operative Group today appointed Jennifer Kerr as Group Director Human Resources.
Overseeing human resources for Fonterra’s 17,000 staff worldwide, Ms Kerr’s responsibilities include recruitment, reward strategy, performance management, capability management, talent management, organisational development, training, health and safety, and employee relations. She will report to the CEO Andrew Ferrier.
Andrew Ferrier says that Ms Kerr was appointed after an international search for the position and that her background makes her ideally suited to the role.
“Over the past five years our focus has been on structuring the business more efficiently to drive profitable growth and productivity. Our priorities now are on empowering the right people to take the business forward. In Jennifer we have the ideal person to make that a reality.”
A New Zealander, Ms Kerr has extensive international experience in human resources. She joined Fonterra nearly five months ago as Fonterra’s General Manager Employee Relations and Rewards, and has been acting head of human resources since the departure of Jerry Saville last month.
“I am delighted to be taking up this position,” says Ms Kerr. “Having come from a rural New Zealand background, I spent most of my career offshore. It is therefore very fitting to be coming back full circle to my rural roots to work for one of New Zealand’s best companies.”
She says her initial priorities will include capability development and talent management, both in New Zealand and offshore.
Originally from Oparau in the King Country, Jennifer Kerr has an arts degree from the University of Waikato. She has worked in the oil industry in the US and Europe for Mobil, and in the leisure industry in the UK for Whitbread, holding a variety of senior human resources roles. Before moving overseas, she worked for Tower Corporation and the State Services Commission.
Upon returning to New Zealand, she ran her own consultancy, Jennifer Kerr and Associates, before joining Fonterra Co-operative Group in July this year.
