New look Overlander to run 7 days
The Overlander rail service between Auckland Wellington return goes 7 days a week from Friday, December 15. It has been running just 3 days a week since Toll announced the continuation of the service so some much needed improvements could take place.
Passengers travelling on the daily Overlander train service this summer can look forward to travelling in greater style thanks to a major refurbishment programme.
Tranz Scenic has started running the first of its upgraded Overlander carriages that externally have been updated with new paint and branding making the Overlander clearly identifiable as it travels through the central North Island.
The interior also has a fresh new look, using New Zealand made seat fabric and carpets. In addition there will be new headrests and curtains.
The programme is just one of the many improvements being made to the Overlander as Tranz Scenic continues to focus on offering a top quality experience.
Marketing Manager Graeme Mowday says, “The Overlander is an icon to so many New Zealanders and the new look to the carriages makes the Overlander clearly identifiable to the public as it makes its journey through the central North Island.”
”The refurbishment means we can now also offer the market the high standard of comfort they expect, which compliments some of the other benefits of travelling by train.”
Tranz Scenic is delighted at the support being shown by the New Zealand public and looks forward to that continuing.
Mr Mowday says, “Forward bookings continue to look positive and with daily departures in time for the busy summer season we can cater to the tourist market”
“This is a very exciting time for the Overlander and success is important to enable continuing improvements to the service and experience for all passengers”
To celebrate the return to daily operation the public is invited to view and photograph the new look Overlander during an open day the 12th of December. There will be refurbished carriages on display, giveaways and the chance to win great travel prizes.
The Overlander will be on Platform 9, Wellington Railway Station, between 10am and 3pm Tuesday 12 December.
