Chartered Accountants give Santa Christmas gift ideas
Dear Santa
Please give the Inland Revenue policy team a year-long paid holiday. They have worked on really complicated stuff all year. We think it will take taxpayers at least a year to understand how to comply with all the changes they've made.
Please give New Zealand a regulatory responsibility Act, to change the behaviour of politicians and officials, helping them identify all the costs and alternatives to regulatory intervention.
Please fix the tax penalty regime. It's so harsh ordinary people are reluctant to admit their mistakes and instead try to hide them.
And please let us wake up and realise the government's ideas for a tax credit scheme were all a bad dream.
Yours,
The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants
