A concept for enabling users of PDAs and similar mobile devices to listen on-location to information about New Zealand's
attractions and places of special interest is now a fully functioning website.
The brainchild of Wellington man, Alan Wylde, the site which is registered as dayout.mobi has fully zoomable maps, an
address and place finder, as well as listing all the attractions and accommodation in the parent website's DayOut
databases.
Mr Wylde has invested thousands of hours in developing DayOut and dayout.mobi. For the first time, he says, users of
mobile devices such as PDAs can access audio guides to attractions both well-known and not so famous throughout New
Zealand.
Subscribers can select from more than two hundred audio guides, with more being added each month. They can also access
other location-based information, including many pdfs and photographs. More than three thousand attractions in total are
listed, as well as hotels, motels, backpackers and holiday parks from the far south to Northland.
The dayout.mobi service can also be utilised by owners of other mobile devices, such as MP3 players, and by computer
users by logging on to the main website, www.dayout.co.nz
Mr Wylde says his original concept was to offer an easy-to-use location-based service that would enable people using
their own mobile device to find and learn about interesting things in the neigbourhood, wherever they are in New
Zealand.
We aim to enhance the traveller's experience by providing the insights and depth of information afforded by the best
guidebooks as well as the immediacy of the Internet, he said.
