Inaugural New Zealand Airports Association Conference
Today the inaugural New Zealand Airports Association (NZAA) conference was held in Auckland. Established earlier this
year the airport industry group objective is to facilitate
co-operation, mutual assistance, information exchange and educational opportunities among its members. It also provides
a forum for discussion and decision on matters affecting airports, travel, tourism, air freight and other issues
involving the aviation industry.
Members represent New Zealand’s international, domestic and regional airports, companies involved in airport related
activity and individuals with an interest in the aviation industry.
“The NZAA has achieved a great deal in a short space of time having only been established since April of this year. This
conference is a first step towards achieving our key objective, to facilitate an efficient, safe and secure aviation
sector for the benefit of all New Zealanders,” said Graeme Ware, NZAA Chairman.
“Over two days we have a strong line up of speakers including the Civil Aviation Authority and a CEO forum. Other
presentations and workshops will cover emergency and safety issues, training, surface transport and retail and
commercial opportunities at airports.”
Sydney based key note speaker Andrew Miller, CEO Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation, gave a strategic overview of the
worldwide aviation market with a focus on the fast growing Asia Pacific region.
Guest speaker Don Huse, CEO Auckland International Airport Limited this morning spoke on the airport industry focusing
on the positive. He highlighted the importance of the industry working constructively with all its different
stakeholders. He said the primary aim must be to help ensure safe and secure operations and the supply of world class
airport facilities and services.
Later today, Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown and Dunedin will take part in a CEO forum. It will consider a range of
topics including airport economics and investment, border agencies and passenger screening technologies, tourism taxes,
environmental sustainability, new aircraft types, low cost carriers and airport service quality.
