Flying Trapeze Artists Swing Highest on Awards Night
New Zealand Post has taken the Supreme Award at the New Zealand Sponsorship Awards (Eds - Thursday November 9, Auckland.) for its sponsorship of Les Arts Sauts in this year’s New Zealand International Arts Festival.
It also won the Best National Arts Sponsor Award.
New Zealand Post’s award winning promotion featured 25 model trapeze artists, 15 New Zealand Post logos and 15 flags hung from lamp posts around Wellington’s waterfront and busiest streets to promote Les Arts Sauts’ new performance, Ola Kala.
1.6 metres high and made of fibreglass, the trapeze men were created by Saatchi and Saatchi Wellington, and local model-making company Human Dynamo.
They are the result of a detailed design and production process that took place over several months.
New Zealand Post national sponsorship manager Hermione Bushong says the fact an arts sponsorship category took the Supreme Award is recognition of the complementary and effective relationship arts and business can have.
“This award acknowledges the growing relationship between the two worlds of the arts and business.
“The Les Arts Sauts catch phrase was “taking performance to new heights” - our hanging men are the artistic interpretation of that notion.  They were a very distinctive feature around the time of the festival – hanging around in the Wellington wind, and made quite a statement about art being enjoyed by everyone, literally by the man – or woman - on the street.”
Ms Bushong says New Zealand Post is committed to supporting the arts in New Zealand.
