US Ambassador William P. McCormick recently presented Importer of the Year from the USA award to Auckland-based firm
James Crisp – a private New Zealand owned business that began importing dried fruit and nuts from the United States in
1922.
James Crisp Director Henry Hall says the award is fitting recognition as we also celebrate 90 years in business, during
which time the company had thrived despite numerous eras of importing and licensing controls.
“James Crisp is a family business, and it’s a privilege to work alongside a team who work incredibly hard, put in long
hours and have enjoyed strong career paths with us over the years. We’re delighted with our long standing partnership
with the United States import industry.”
The US brands represented by James Crisp include household favourites Ocean Spray Cranberries and Best Foods Mayonnaise.
The company also represents several of California’s leading dried fruit and nut growers of which almonds make up a
substantial volume in NZ.
“Since the company began in 1916, James Crisp now employs 30 full time staff and offer sales agent and merchandising
services across the country, plus an active ingredients business.
“Over the years we have developed hundreds of private label or house brand products which keep the New Zealand grocery
business exciting.”
Celebrating kiwi innovation and entrepreneurship, the American Chamber of Commerce Importer of the Year event
acknowledges the partnership between New Zealand and its second largest trading partner, the United States.
