KFC’s New Oil Just A Load Of Old Cock
AUCKLAND, 9 November 2006 – Red Rooster, the good chicken company, today announced that it was amused at news that KFC was switching to new cooking oil when the “F” still
stood for fried chicken.
Red Rooster was recently voted the best fast food restaurant in Australia with 34 years of experience in making New Zealand and Australia’s best tasting chicken with six stores now
open in Auckland, Tauranga and Hamilton.
Roger Gower, Chairman of Red Rooster says that KFC’s oils feature announcement was hard to understand as it did not change the fact that fried chicken is still not the healthiest way
to eat no matter what oil you use.
“Switching the oil at KFC but still frying the chicken is like smoking a cigarette with a double filter – it still doesn’t change the fact that it’s not healthy for you,” says Gower.
“Why doesn’t the ‘Colonel’ just make chicken the way that Kiwis really want it – barn-raised, roasted not fried, marinated and slow cooked to capture the succulent natural tenderness that
is in every Red Rooster meal.”
Gower says that Red Rooster prides itself on its healthy, quality offering that makes chicken better and so was more than a little surprised at KFC’s announcement.
“If KFC really wanted to say something important why not explain why they still insist on serving fried chicken but do everything under the sun to disguise it or why those 11 herbs and
spices are still secret - what gives! Do they think Kiwis’ can’t see through the ‘Colonel’ even when he’s waving his stick?”
Gower says that Red Rooster is keen to bring its unique and healthy chicken dining experience to as many Kiwis as possible which is different from anything else in the market.
“The other Red Rooster advantage is in knowing and including what goes best with chicken and so all Red’s menus include sides of roast potatoes, peas, salads, coleslaw, chips,
mashed potato, gravy, and garlic bread.”
“Because Red Rooster believes in healthy living we have a wide range of meal options from a light grilled chicken salad, baguette or wrap, to family meal combinations with whole roast chicken, garlic bread, roast potatoes, peas and gravy – our number one aim has always been to provide good tasting fast food that’s actually good for you,” says Gower.
“The good thing about Red Rooster is that we believe in doing things the tried and tested way, which means barn raised chicken that is hand-seasoned and then baked in state-of-the-art ovens which ensures consistently moist and tender chicken - the best thing is that the fat ends up in the pan, not on your thighs!”
