Industry-trained management graduates instil ‘longevity and sustainability’ in Air Pacific.
In what is thought to be a first for the South Pacific region, Air Pacific industry training graduates have received
customized qualifications from the Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation (ATTTO), designed by the private
sector, moderated and quality controlled by the public sector, and delivered on–the-Job.
The first group of 11 graduated with the National Diploma in Business and the ATTTO/Praxis Group Airline Management
Award, on 27 October 2006 at a formal graduation held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort.
“Developing the next generation of graduates is a priority for the company; the people who have graduated today are the
future of Air Pacific,” says John Campbell Managing Director of Air Pacific.
The programme is specifically tailored to the Airline Industry and incorporates the National Diploma in Business.
“This is the first time that this style of education has been rolled out to the Pacific and this has opened up the
training potential to other organisations interested in the longevity and sustainability of their organisations,” ATTTO
Chief Executive Gayle Sheridan says.
The qualification and delivery are the result of a joint venture between ATTTO, Praxis Group Ltd and Air Pacific.
ATTTO is the mandated industry training organisation for the aviation industry in New Zealand.
Praxis is a New Zealand-based education, international development consulting and project management firm, focusing on
facilitation, training and organisational development in education.
Praxis and ATTTO obtained the contract, because they provided diverse content and flexibility that was not on offer
elsewhere.
Michael Green, High Commissioner of New Zealand said in a speech delivered at the event.
“Praxis worked closely with Air Pacific to design a study programme that integrated management theory and philosophy
with a focus on practical problem-solving within the aviation environment. By graduating, you have enhanced your career
prospects within the Air Pacific organisation… because this programme was shaped to enhance your competencies and skills
as managers in that business. But it has also expanded your career opportunities since you have earned a recognised and
portable qualification.”
