Grocery shoppers get new fuel savings
From Monday, grocery shoppers throughout New Zealand will be able to get a discount off their fuel thanks to nation-wide supermarket operator Progressive Enterprises Ltd and participating Shell and Gull service stations.
Anyone who spends $40 or more shopping at any Woolworths, Foodtown or Countdown supermarket will receive a voucher for four cents per litre off fuel purchases.
The voucher is redeemable at any of 250 participating Shell and Gull service stations throughout the country.
It is automatically printed at the bottom of shoppers’ till receipts when their grocery bill exceeds $40. The vouchers can be redeemed for discounts on both super and regular petrol as well as diesel and LPG for cars.
Progressive says the Grocery Fuel Discount programme is a new way of rewarding customers and saving on fuel costs nation-wide.
“It’s a great new reward for simply doing your grocery shopping,” says Progressive’s general manager of marketing Richard Manaton. “You shop at a supermarket regularly; so why not come to Woolworths, Foodtown or Countdown and save on your fuel costs at the same time?
“This is another innovative way Progressive is delivering new savings and lower fuel prices to all New Zealanders no matter where they live or drive.
“To get your four cents a litre discount, all you have to do is spend $40 at Woolworths, Foodtown or Countdown and take the discount voucher that’s printed on the bottom of your till receipt to any Shell or Gull service station. The stations are identified by Woolworths, Foodtown or Countdown logos on the price board.”
Mr Manaton emphasises it is Progressive that sets the fuel discount level.
“The current discount level is four cents. But this not a one-off promotion; it is an ongoing programme that adds excellent value to those who shop at Woolworths, Foodtown or Countdown supermarkets.
“The initiative is unprecedented in this country. While there are a limited number of fuel redemption schemes in existence, Progressive is taking the successful formula to a new level with nation-wide coverage with 153 participating supermarkets and more than 250 service stations,” Mr Manaton says.
Mark Forsyth of Shell New Zealand says the discount programme represents unbeatable value for fuel purchasing in New Zealand.
“This arrangement continues Shell’s proud position as a market leader in fuels retailing in New Zealand and builds on Shell’s global ambition to be the world’s best fuels retailer.”
General manager of Gull, David Bodger, says the programme expands Gull’s four year relationship with Progressive Enterprises.
“When we first linked with Progressive it was an innovative scheme for New Zealand and this new relationship builds on that. We expect this to have a positive impact on our business.”
Mr Manaton says shoppers continue to receive all other Woolworths, Foodtown or Countdown discounts as well as Onecard points calculated as normal on grocery purchases.
The Grocery Fuel Discount is calculated at the petrol station till where the operator swipes the voucher barcode to calculate the discounted price. The discount is not available to online shoppers or service station shop sales.
The voucher is valid for a month for one single fuel purchase of up to 100 litres. Only one voucher can be presented at any one time.
