Media Advisory re ground handling contract
Unions representing workers at Air New Zealand’s Airport Services division have raised doubts about whether Qantas has
terminated its ground handling contract with the airline.
To set the record straight the following is an excerpt from a letter from Qantas’ New Zealand domestic operator
Jetconnect dated September 6, 2006:
“Please accept this letter as notice from Jetconnect of the termination of our existing arrangements, to become
effective as at 2359 hours on 31 January 2007.”
Air New Zealand understands that while it is welcome to bid for the work again, the airline’s only chance of being
successful is if it can substantially lower its price, something which cannot be achieved without significant labour
reform.
