Air New Zealand gets in behind the London Film Festival
Air New Zealand celebrates being one of the New Zealand film industry’s highest flying fans with its sponsorship of The
Times BFI 50th London Film Festival, and the Gala screening of the New Zealand film, No 2, on Saturday, 21st October
2006.
An avid supporter of the New Zealand film scene, Air New Zealand has had a strong association with the film industry,
covering its aircraft with images of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy several years ago, and more recently, taking on
naming rights sponsorship of the annual Air New Zealand Screen Awards.
Scott Carr, Air New Zealand General Manager UK & Europe said the airline was delighted to be involved with The Times BFI 50th London Film Festival and associated with
the highly acclaimed New Zealand film No 2.
“No 2 scooped four awards at this year’s Air New Zealand Screen Awards: Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best
Supporting Actress and Original Music so to now have a role in helping to bring this great Kiwi film to London is the
icing on the cake for us.
“With newly upgraded aircraft featuring on-demand digital entertainment system and a second daily service to London
launching at the end of the month, we’ve never been more capable and committed to promoting the creative talents of our
film and television industry,” he said.
No 2, written and directed by award-winning playwright Toa Fraser, is infused with the heat and vibrancy of the South
Pacific. It is a big-hearted, exuberant film about what it takes to bring family together and tells the story of Nanna
Maria, who, inspired by a dream of her childhood back in Fiji, demands that her grandchildren put on a feast at which
she will name her successor.
With daily flights to entertainment hotspots like London, Los Angeles and Hong Kong, Air New Zealand is fast becoming
the airline of choice for film lovers.
Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings, Whalerider and The World’s Fastest Indian are a few of the impressive line up of
films passengers can enjoy at 30,000ft. The airline’s state-of-the-art personal entertainment system makes Air New
Zealand the ultimate cinema in the sky.
