Hart eyeing Amcor deal
Fresh from taking over Carter Holt Harvey, billionaire corporate raider Graeme Hart is eyeing Amcor's cardboard box businesses in Australia and New Zealand. Investment bankers believe Hart would be an eager buyer of the assets worth around $785 million in a carve-up of the struggling global packaging group. Brett Clegg reports.
Brash alienates another coalition partner in Maori Party
National Party leader Don Brash suspended caucus rebel Brian Connell in show of strength yesterday, but doubts remain within the party about his ability to win an election and form a coalition government. Brash has alienated another potential coalition partner by suggesting there were few full blood Maoris left in New Zealand, sparking outrage from Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples last night. New Feltex bidder on the scene
Feltex' receivers talked yesterday afternoon to a "serious New Zealand player" interested in buying the beleaguered company. Receiver Kerryn Downey of McGrathNicol + Partners declined to name the new player, but hinted it could be a rival carpet maker. Denise McNabb reports.
Warehouse deal will bypass Foodstuffs veto
Stephen Tindall's buyout consortium will announce before the end of the week a takeover offer for The Warehouse structured as an amalgamation, sources close to the deal say. The choice of structure means the offer will escape the influence of the Takeover Panel. Nick Stride reports.
Auckland petrol tax one step closer
