Enterprise innovation and value creation - the new key drivers for business success and sustainability
Innovative practices and value creation - the new key drivers to ensure business success and sustainability - will be
the focus of the eighth Sustainability Series one-day conference to be held in Auckland on
Monday 18 September 2006.
Managing Values Principal and Conference Convenor, Dr Attracta Lagan, said
the Sustainability 2006 Series will provide public and private enterprises with comprehensive information on how
international organisations are revising their traditional business structures to accommodate and compete in an
increasingly
global - and virtual - economy.
Sponsored by the NZ Ministry of Economic Development and NZ Ministry for the Environment, the Sustainability 2006 Series
conference will include Special Guest Speakers such as:
John Elkington, Chief Entrepreneur, Sustainability Ltd - pioneer of the “triple bottom line” and world leader on
innovative sustainability strategies.
Bob Adams, Chief Designer, IDEO Consultancy, which helps organisations innovate through design. IDEO created Apple
Computer’s first mouse and helped design the first laptop. The organisation ranked 15 in Boston Consulting Group’s 25
most innovative companies of 2006.
David Stangis, Corporate Social Responsibility Director, Intel - the world’s
largest and most innovative chip maker - on the benefits of partnering for
success and their pioneering intranet-based “emerging issues” global monitoring system which issues weekly alerts to
3,500 employees and 150 top managers.
Alex Barkawi, CEO, SAM Indexes, co-publisher of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, with an insight into global
sustainable performance and how it relates to business success.
Jeff Skoll, first employee and first President, eBay, on how the Skoll Foundation believes strategic investment in the
right people can lead to lasting social change. Jeff Skoll will be presenting at the conference via video link.
Dr Lagan said Sustainability is now entering its third phase after evolving from compliance orientation in the 1980s, to
corporate citizenship orientation in the 1990s, followed by a major leap forward in the 21st century towards highly
competitive, entrepreneurial and innovative companies.
“Now that Sustainability is moving to centre stage, the focus is shifting to innovation and value creation developed by
forging new business partnerships between the previously segregated public, private and volunteer sectors.
“The Sustainability 2006 Series Conference will provide a valuable blueprint for Australian leadership teams on how to
embrace the call to action by engaging strategic and innovative concepts that will help position organisations more
competitively in a changing business environment,” Dr Lagan said.
