Aloha! - Jetstar on Sale to Hawaii
Jetstar announced today it had commenced selling fares to Honolulu, Hawaii, confirming its six-strong stable of international long-haul destinations was readily available to New Zealand travelers through the low fare carrier's ability to deliver connecting flights from Christchurch.
Jetstar is now offering amazing low fare direct flights to the popular holiday destination from Sydney and for the first time from Melbourne for a Qantas Group airline.
Commencing 27 December 2006, Jetstar will fly 3 times weekly services direct from Sydney to Honolulu.
The low fare carrier's 2 times weekly Melbourne-Honolulu services launch on 29 December, and bring further new international flights direct to the Victorian capital. All flights are subject to regulatory approval.
Jetstar's Aloha Celebration sale is now open with all inclusive, web fares from AUD $249 one way at Jetstar.com for both Australian routes. The sale will end at 12 noon (AEST) Friday 15 September 2006, unless seats sell out prior. Sale fares are for the travel period between 1 February and 31 May 2007*. Sale fares are subject to availability. Further details at Jetstar.com.
Jetstar will initially operate Airbus A330-200 aircraft (303 seat configured) to Honolulu, offering two classes of service including StarClass, Jetstar's premium cabin.
The low fares carrier has also released everyday online fares at Jetstar.com for its proposed Honolulu services all inclusive from AUD $579 one way from Sydney and AUD $599 one way from Melbourne.
Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said the carrier was expecting an enthusiastic response to its Honolulu fare promotion.
"Both our launch and everyday fares we believe will be highly attractive with Hawaii such a popular holiday destination," Mr Joyce said.
"Jetstar is the low fares leader in each of the international and domestic markets we currently serve and our future flights to Honolulu direct from both Sydney and Melbourne will continue this trend.
"The five times weekly services from Australia to Honolulu are incremental for the Qantas Group, and follows an exemption granted last month by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) for Jetstar to market these flights."
New Zealand Manager for Hawaii Tourism Oceania Darragh Walshe said Jetstar's new offering was a big leap forward in terms of choice for South Island holiday makers and would also provide a low-cost option for small and medium businesses with interests in the North Pacific.
"Hawaii Tourism is very encouraged by the opportunities this new service will bring and looks forward to supporting the promotion of the Jetstar service and connections in New Zealand," Mr Walshe said.
Jetstar plans to undertake cooperative marketing with the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
Christchurch business leaders have previously praised the extension of Jetstar's services to offer South Island travelers increased options and also add strength to the pull of New Zealand and the South Island as a destination.
All Jetstar long-haul international services will have a Qantas codeshare arrangement, connectivity of Jetstar passengers and their luggage between Jetstar international services and Qantas international and Qantas domestic services as well as seamless through check-in.
The airline plans to also serve 5 other international destinations directly from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, with its first phase of value based long-haul flying including Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City, Bali and Osaka, with the first proposed flight on 23 November 2006 on the Melbourne - Bangkok route.*
Jetstar operates minimum daily return trans-Tasman flights to Sydney (10 times weekly), Melbourne (9 times weekly) and Brisbane (7 times weekly), in addition to a 2 times weekly direct Gold Coast service to Christchurch.
