A golden tribute to boutique wine producers
In a tribute to boutique wine producers, 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 11 Bronze medals were awarded to Martinborough wineries at this year's NZ Winemaker's Romeo Bragato Wine Awards.
The two Gold medals went to Alexander Vineyard Pinot Noir 2005 and Martinus Estate Pinot Noir 2005.
Both vineyards are boutique family-owned producers specialising in limited production high quality Pinot Noir.
"As the spiritual home of Pinot Noir in New Zealand, the Martinborough Wine Village is full of boutique wineries and we're thrilled to receive this recognition and fly the flag for this town of passionate winemakers" said Mike Finucane, Owner, Alexander Vineyard.
"As a region we account for less than 2% of the national production, but produce an outstanding number of top wines in the premium category and we're proud of it!"
Rob van Zanten of Martinus Estate said he was very pleased with the 2005 vintage, which had an extended ripening period giving real intensity and depth to our wines. We will be releasing these wines towards the end of the year.
The twelfth Bragato Wine Awards were announced on Saturday 27th August in Queenstown at this year's Romeo Bragato Conference, which discusses the role science, technology and innovation plays in grape growing and wine making.
The Romeo Bragato Wine Awards is a unique competition because it recognises the viticultural excellence of grape growers and individual vineyards.
