New chair for ECan Finance and Audit Committee post Cr Wagner’s resignation
Environment Canterbury councillors have elected Cr Bob Kirk to chair the council’s Finance and Audit committee following
the resignation of Cr Nicky Wagner from the post.
The purpose of the Finance and Audit committee, which meets monthly, is to address audit issues and external financial
reporting, financial risk management, internal portfolio control and strategic performance management. The committee is
also meeting with portfolio chairs in November to review the Long Term Council Community Plan process.
In nominating Cr Kirk for the post, Cr Richard Budd said that his previous positions as vice-chancellor with senior
administrative responsibility at the University of Canterbury managing multi-million dollar budgets placed him in a good
position for the Finance and Audit chairmanship at ECan. ECan chairman Sir Kerry Burke said that he believed Cr Kirk was
the most qualified person on the ECan council for the Finance and Audit leadership role.
Seconding Cr Kirk for the position, Cr Elizabeth Cunningham said that she also knew of Cr Kirk’s extensive budgeting
experience at the University, the fact that he was already a member of the Finance and Audit committee at ECan and the
credibility and experience he would bring to the chairmanship.
