New board members give boost to new Career Services phase
Career Services’ Chief Executive Lester Oakes says new board appointments will provide a rich breadth of experience as
Career Services enters a new phase.
Minister of Education Steve Maharey has announced that the new chair of the Career Services board will be Kaye Turner,
Deputy Chair of the Tertiary Education Commission. Other new board members are university senior lecturer Marjolein
Lips-Wiersma and secondary school principal Arthur Graves.
Lester Oakes said Career Services was entering an exciting period and the new members add new perspectives and
experience.
“Career Services is entering an important phase. We are looking to play a lead role in the crucial area of work in life
planning. It’s an important issue for the whole community and we’ll be playing a central role in promoting both
awareness and solutions,” said Lester Oakes.
“Kaye Turner’s vision and breadth of high level experience in the tertiary sector adds significantly to our confidence
and capacity,” said Lester Oakes.
“Marjolein Lips-Wiersma brings expertise in organisational development and Arthur Graves is very highly regarded in
secondary schools, one of our key sectors. We are fortunate to have a balanced and highly skilled board,” said Lester
Oakes.
Lester Oakes also paid tribute to the outgoing chair Trish McKelvey and board member Maria Humphries.
“Trish McKelvey and Maria Humphries have been board members for 10 years and made significant contributions to our
success over this time. They leave us in excellent shape and well prepared for our new challenges,” said Lester Oakes.
Other members of the Career Services board are Brent Kennerley (who has been reappointed for a further term), Trudie
McNaughton, Carl Pascoe and Tina Wehipeihana-Wilson.
