Council appoints new General Manager
Christchurch City Council has appointed Kevin Mara to the new position of General Manager Capital Programme.
In his new role, Kevin will have over-riding accountability for the delivery of the Council's organisation-wide Capital
Programme. Council has committed to spend $1.9 billion over the next 10 years to deliver an extensive capital works
programme outlined in the 2006/16 LTCCP, of which $183.9 million will be spent in 2006/07.
Council Chief Executive Dr Lesley McTurk says that as the Unit Manager City Solutions for the past three years, Kevin
has excelled at managing the team responsible for providing professional engineering, planning and project management
services to the Council. Under Kevin's management City Solutions has received more than 13 awards in the past three
years for projects including South Library, English Park redevelopment, the Picton Avenue Reserve and the Travis Wetland
Birdhide.
The new general manager role will lead a shared service which is responsible for delivering the Council's capital
programme across the whole organisation.
"The new appointment along with the recent realignment of the City Environment Group supports the way the organisation
now works across the various groups to ensure we operate as one team and provide integrated services and solutions," Dr
McTurk says.
"It is a fitting accolade for both Kevin and the organisation that an internal candidate was the outstanding applicant
in a very contestable recruitment process."
Kevin Mara says he is looking forward to the challenge of his new role. "Delivering on the capital programme is a huge
focus for Council in the years ahead and my position is dedicated to ensure we meet the community's expectations," he
says.
