Skycity Community Trust Grants Up For Grabs
Local community groups and charitable organisations seeking funding are urged to apply for a grant in the annual SKYCITY
Hamilton Community Trust funding round. Applications are now open and will close on Friday 29 September 2006.
Trust Chairperson, Margaret Evans, says applications of all sizes are welcome from community groups and charitable
organisations.
“The Trust will consider applications from groups planning work that will make a positive, tangible difference to people
in the Waikato and surrounding regions. We support a broad range of initiatives, focusing on projects that contribute to
community well-being, tourism, arts and culture,” Margaret Evans says.
The list of successful applications is expected to be confirmed in November 2006, with grants being allocated to those
groups soon after.
The SKYCITY Hamilton Community Trust was established in 2003, as part of the SKYCITY Hamilton licence application
process. Its purpose is to provide funds for community and charitable purposes. Over the last three years the Trust has
distributed a total of $1,147,261 through 274 grants.
Last year the grants ranged in amount from $21,370 for the Invitation to a Voyage Trust, towards producing a film about
a journey down the Waikato River, to $345 to North Hamilton Community Patrol for new patrol vests.
Other highlights included: $4,995 for a new instrument for Hamilton Citizen’s Band; $15,000 towards the Hamilton Gardens
Summer Festival; $1,000 for new toys at Hamilton Plunket Toy Library; $7,500 towards costs for the Hamilton Refuge and
Support Services; and $10,000 towards a new rescue vehicle for Raglan Volunteer Coastguard.
Funding by SKYCITY Hamilton Community Trust will continue each year with applications sought every June. For more
