More Big Names For Remarkables Park
Major national businesses ASB, Noel Leeming and Smiths City have announced that they will open at Remarkables Park, Queenstown.
Well-known appliance chain Noel Leeming and leading South Island DIY/homewares retailer Smiths City will be open for business in the centre by Christmas this year, with ASB open early May 2007.
ASB CEO Hugh Burrett confirmed the bank would maintain their downtown Queenstown presence, making ASB the first bank to have two branches in the resort town. Remarkables Park will comprise a retail branch and business, and rural office.
“The new bank demonstrates ASB’s confidence in Remarkables Park and the region, and will be a significant investment for us,” he said.
Remarkables Park’s Auckland director John Porter, who negotiated the ASB deal, said that Remarkables Park’s growing reputation as a major regional destination was underwriting its success in attracting more national and major South Island businesses to the centre.
“This benefits the whole district as it provides further diversification and more local career opportunities,” he said.
ASB, Noel Leeming and Smiths City will all be located in a new 5,000 sqm building containing six new retailers spread over (4,000 sqm) two levels, and an additional storey (900 sqm) of office suites on a third level at the eastern end of the building. A further 120 car parks will be available in conjunction with the new building before the peak Christmas and New Year season, bringing total parks in the Centre to more than 600.
Noel Leeming spokesperson, Dave Hargreaves, General Manager - Operations, said the company had long wanted to find the right store location in Queenstown.
“To be situated in Queenstown’s twin town centre at Remarkables Park was the most viable option. It’s a strong retail destination, with plenty of free parking outside the stores and a broad mix of quality retailers including a very busy supermarket.
“The ongoing expansion plans at the Centre will further increase its popularity and we are excited that our Noel Leeming brand will be contributing to this growing success story.”
Remarkables Park’s Queenstown director, Alastair Porter said the company’s leasing programme was aimed at broadening the retail and service mix at the Centre to give people more choice and convenience. He said an example of this was the new Smiths City store, which will be two and half times larger than its existing showroom in Gorge Rd providing a much wider range of product.
“People want this Centre to service more of their daily convenience shopping and business needs. To achieve this we are providing more shops of all sizes to meet local and regional demand and a wider variety of office suites. Much of this will be available in 2007,” Mr Porter said.
“Many businesses interested in expanding into the growing market serviced by Remarkables Park are contacting us in advance so we can provide custom designed space to meet their future requirements.”
