AMP Capital appoints Head of Investment Strategy
Catherine Savage, Managing Director of AMP Capital Investors, New Zealand’s largest fund manager, today announced the
appointment of Leo Krippner as the company’s new Head of Investment Strategy.
“This newly established role is responsible for managing the asset allocation of the New Zealand diversified and global
multi-manager funds to successfully deliver superior investment performance to the New Zealand market, and we are
delighted to have Leo Krippner take on that responsibility,” Ms Savage said.
The appointment was made after an extensive search of the extremely competitive market both within New Zealand and
overseas. Ms Savage said that AMP Capital Investors was very pleased to find that after such a rigorous search AMP
Capital Investors was able to promote a candidate from within the existing team.
“Mr Krippner is welcomed onto the AMP Capital Investors New Zealand management team and also becomes part of a wider
global team of Investment Strategists headed by Dr Shane Oliver in Australia,” said Ms Savage.
“This reporting relationship provides the New Zealand business with significant opportunities as it can draw on the
huge amount of global experience and intellectual capabilities across a broader team.
“Leo’s appointment to this newly created role demonstrates AMP Capital Investors’ commitment to continuous improvement
and growth in our investment management team. It also = complements the appointment last year of Guy Elliffe to the role
of Head of Equities, and this year of Grant Hassell to the role of Head of Fixed Interest,” she said.
“Mr Krippner has a demonstrated track record in some very key roles during his career. He has worked in macroeconomic
forecasting at Treasury and in financial market analyst and portfolio manager roles in the private sector. Mr Krippner
was also a portfolio manager in the Foreign Reserves section of the Reserve Bank. He was appointed to the position of
Fixed Interest
Strategist for AMP Capital in 2004 – the position he has held until this new appointment to Head of Investment
Strategy,” said Ms Savage. Complementing this practical experience, Mr Krippner is due to complete his PhD specialising
in finance and economics this year.
He holds a Bachelor of Science majoring in science and mathematics and a Master of Science with first class honours in
theoretical physics, both from the University of Waikato. He also studied finance and macroeconomics at the London
School of Economics and has several published papers to his name. Mr Krippner was a joint recipient of the A R Bergstrom
Prize in Econometrics 2005 for a paper on yield curve analysis associated with his PhD.
