Woosh Buys Leading ISP Quicksilver
Tuesday, 25 July 2006 - As part of its expansion plan, Woosh Wireless announced today that it had bought highly regarded New Zealand ISP Quicksilver.
Woosh’s customer base, with Quicksilver’s 10,000 customers, is now almost 35,000 strong.
“Quicksilver is an excellent strategic fit giving Woosh an immediate extra dimension, bundling wireless and fixed line services. We’re now well on our way to being New Zealand’s third fully-fledged network operator,” said Woosh Chief Executive Bob Smith.
With the purchase of Quicksilver, Woosh can now provide phone and internet services to every household in New Zealand. The bundled wireless and DSL service offering instantly expands Woosh’s marketing and target audience reach and will almost certainly accelerate its market share growth.
“As part of our growth strategy, we will continue to evaluate other acquisition options in the market. Woosh is also aggressively acquiring new cell sites to expand our wireless network,” Smith added.
Quicksilver commenced operations in 1999 under the leadership of Matthew Hobbs, a telecoms veteran. He was joined in 2000 by Mark Frater, another experienced telco operator. Both will join Woosh as part of the acquisition, and boost its capability.
“Every thing about the deal is scalable and the Quicksilver identity and values fit neatly under the Woosh umbrella,” Hobbs added.
The Quicksilver brand will continue for fixed line products and services.
Quicksilver offers the full range of ADSL Broadband plans for home and business, low cost call plans, and an extensive range of ISP services.
Hobbs says “the Woosh commercial operation suits Quicksilver’s growth ambitions and immediately extends the overall product range and consumer and business options.”
Sales and marketing functional areas will be the first objective of the Woosh/Quicksilver integration with Woosh’s Marketing Manager, Mark Williams, taking on the project leadership.
