Presentations
The third event in the 1 + 1 > 2 series of seminars and networking sessions features three companies involved in multimedia/visual technology and a fascinating user's perspective.
1. SPF Multimedia design and develop media-rich applications for business, and for corporate, sports and entertainment events. Integrating live data into multimedia presentations has become a specialised area of activity for SPF at events such as the Hat and Hair Awards, a fusion of incoming data feeds and large screen theatre projections. Recent work on an event ticket-selling application is leading towards an integrated solution with mobile phone and giant 4th screen.
SPF Multimedia are actively seeking collaboration with a mobile phone company and with a media and advertising company to develop and promote the use of public-facing media similar to that seen at the start of the 2004 film I, Robot. This sequence will be shown at the event.
2. RPM Retail's core product RPM is a revolutionary concept that combines point-of-sale data, the internet and some smart new technology to deliver plain-English performance improvement advice to retailers. RPM distils massive amounts of retail point-of-sale data into "Action Bulletins", a combination of visual and written information designed to increase store profitability.
Each Action Bulletin highlights an opportunity for improvement in a simple, easy to follow format so that even the most inexperienced staff member can implement the advice and make a positive contribution to store performance. The easy-to-use Action Bulletins are in strong contrast to the highly sophisticated, cutting-edge analytics that derive their content. "It's like having an expert consultant in every store, every day."
3. Weta Digital / NZ Supercomputing Centre - Scott Houston was the Chief Technical Officer at Weta Digital during the production of JRR Tolkien's "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King". During this period Weta Digital built the largest computer processing facility in the Southern Hemisphere. When the movies were completed Weta Digital and Telecom New Zealand partnered to create the New Zealand Supercomputer Centre. Scott, who represents Weta Digital in this exciting joint venture, will describe the collaboration and the technology and opportunities these have created.
4. Richard Bell - Shuriken – A User’s Perspective
Richard Bell is Managing Director of Shuriken Ltd. He has produced, directed and edited an extraordinary range of screen productions, both here and overseas. His involvements cover commercials for local and international clients ranging from New World to Nike. He has also produced over 500 music videos for artists such as U2, Nick Cave, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Henry Rollins, Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Depeche Mode and The Pixies. Richard will demonstrate how important multimedia technology is to his business and where future opportunities might lie.
