Chamber Releases Results of Survey on Important Issues Affecting Wellington Region
The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce today released the results of a recent survey of its members on four key
issues affecting the region.
The survey found that there is solid support from the Wellington business community for two proposed major developments
in the city - the Marine Education Centre (90% support) and Hilton Hotel on the outer T of Queen’s Wharf (72% support).
The Chamber also sought direction from its members on the proposed Air New Zealand/Qantas code share on trans-Tasman
services and on the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary visitor information centre.
The survey found that there is good support for the Chamber taking a more prominent role on funding of the visitor
information centre and, in particular, on the issue of how the money in the Government’s Significant Community Based
Programme Fund is allocated.
Members also thought that the Chamber has done the right thing in requesting careful scrutiny of the proposed Air New
Zealand/Qantas codeshare on trans-Tasman services. The Chamber is making a submission to the Ministry of Transport on
this issue.
The Chamber regularly surveys members to ensure that it is fully aware of views on important issues affecting the
Wellington region. It currently has a survey underway on the proposed Harbour Quays development and on the Wellington
Regional Strategy.
