Intrepid Travel gets in tune with Philippines
Inspired by the sheer diversity of the Philippines, Intrepid is thrilled to launch a three week Philippines Adventure that captures the best that this archipelago of over 7000 islands has to offer.
Every country has a passion: in the Philippines it would have to be karaoke! You can belt out a tune in a bar, at a restaurant, in a jeepney (a local bus heavily decorated with anything and everything) even while waiting at the checkout to pay for your groceries!
But of course luckily for most of us, there is more to the Philippines than karaoke.
In particular, the Ifugao Rice Terraces of Banaue, described as the eighth wonder of the world and protected by UNESCO World Heritage status, are a highlight for any traveller. Carved out of the hillside by Ifugao tribes over 2000 years ago without the aid of machinery to provide level steps where the locals plant rice, these remarkable terraces are still in use today.
Other secrets of the Philippines, revealed on the Intrepid Philippines Adventure, include the mysterious hanging coffins of Sagada, the ashen valleys surrounding dormant Mt Pinatubo and the idyllic islands of the Bacuit Archipelago.
It is often overlooked but the Philippines is a destination not to be missed!
