Press Statement from the Rail & Maritime Transport Union-Ontrack Dispute
On the eve of mediation over the Ontrack dispute further comments by The Ontrack Chief Operating Officer William Peet have again angered rail workers.
Mr Peets comments concerning the rail industry in New Zealand and the fact that it has been on the “seriously Ill list for some years” have hit a nerve with our members, said Scott Wilson from the RMTU who has been receiving calls all morning from angry members.
What Mr Peet said is perfectly true said Mr Wilson, but what angers our members is that Mr Peet was part of the disease that caused the illness.
In his previous life with Tranz Rail, Mr Peet is remembered as the architect of selling of the assets of the the rail industry. Poachers turned game keepers lecturing our members on the state of the industry is a bit rich said Mr Wilson, and not constructive on the eve of renewed attempts to reach a settlement through mediation.
