InterCity Working to Assist Tranz Scenic Passengers Affected by Strike
Tranz Scenic has stopped the Overlander Train between Auckland and Wellington on a rolling seven day basis due to the
Ontrack maintenance workers strike.
InterCity and Newmans Coachlines have worked quickly to add 60 additional services between Auckland and Wellington over
the next 14 days. This will include daily services running via the King Country from this Sunday. The situation will
continue to be monitored and changes will be advised accordingly.
“Although it is short notice and school holidays begin today, we are confident we can add sufficient capacity quickly to
ensure domestic travellers and our international visitors have access to public transport options between the two major
centres,” says Malcolm Johns, chief executive at InterCity Group. “We have also moved to add capacity in our national
call centre and alerted agents throughout the North Island to deal with the expected increase in customer enquiries.”
InterCity Coachlines is New Zealand’s only long distance passenger transport system for the majority of communities
throughout New Zealand. Nationwide it carries 1.2 million passengers each year and operates 130 daily services to 600
cities and towns.
