Plans Make A Dent In Transport Backlog
"The release of the National Land Transport Programme and the Transit New Zealand 10-year State Highway Forecast is another milestone step in addressing the transport backlog of congestion, road safety and public transport projects in New Zealand," says AA Motoring Affairs General Manager Mike Noon.
The National Land Transport Programme details how much money is being allocated, and the Transit New Zealand 10-year State Highway Forecast details which projects will receive the funding and when they will be progressed.
"The AA welcomes the release of these two important plans and the certainty they provide for the transport sector. We are heading into an unprecedented level and period of activity on all modes of transport. It is not before time, but it is big progress."
"It is great to see the Transit plan back on track, and the advancement of postponed projects. This would not have been possible without the extra Crown funding announced in the recent Budget."
"For the first time ever, over the next five years all of the revenue from fuel excise tax and road user charges is being allocated to transport. That is something that AA Members have long asked and advocated for."
"At long last New Zealand has confirmed plans that start to make a dent in the backlog of roading and other priority transport projects," says Mr Noon.
