tvnz.co.nz Goes Through the Roof
TVNZ's award winning website – tvnz.co.nz – has reported soaring traffic levels, driven by ONE News, on demand video
clips, competitions and downloads of Dancing with the Stars.
The 2006 Qantas Best Website winner clocked up 8.84 million page impressions in May – 20% higher than April and 28%
higher than May last year.
ONE News performed particularly well, recording a total of 2.09 million page impressions generated by 336,000 unique
visitors. That's a 53% increase in visitors from April to May. The best performers were world news, politics, the Budget
and technology. Page impressions for on-demand video streaming of News were also up 35%, indicating an increase in
people choosing their own time to catch up on the news highlights.
TV ONE's Downloads section saw a spectacular 195% growth from April to May, with screensavers and wallpapers from
Dancing with the Stars and Cold Case.
The Good Morning section also showed strong growth, contributing to a 45% rise in visitors to the TV ONE site since
April.
TV2's site topped the 1 million page impressions mark for the first time. Big attractions were competitions, mainly the
hugely successful Pirates of the Caribbean contest, and downloads from Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and
Shortland Street.
The 2Kids section also reached a new high with year on year growth in visitors of 146%.
To continue the growth, TVNZ plans extra video streaming across a new range of shows, and highlights such as the current
TVNZ Virtual Football competition (where players' points go towards secondary schools competing to win sporting
equipment), and the hugely popular NZ Idol site.
