Commissioner welcomes move on telecommunication changes
Telecommunications Commissioner Douglas Webb is welcoming a call by Telecom for a voluntary industry initiative that could help the transition to a new regulatory regime.
"In May I urged Telecom to roll out new services to its wholesale customers before it was forced to by the changes to the Telecommunications Act," says Douglas Webb.
"Telecom has responded with a promising proposal that involves the industry in developing key aspects of the new services."
"This has the potential to deliver improved broadband services more quickly, while recognising that the regulatory regime is still under development."
Mr Webb said the Commission would assist in this process with industry, consistent with its regulatory responsibilities.
