Changing Of The Guard As Gisborne Cleans Up At 2006 Harveys Annual Real Estate Awards
Gisborne isn’t just the first city in New Zealand each day to see the light, it also now boasts one of the country’s top real estate offices.
At the recent 2006 Harveys Annual Real Estate Awards, Harveys Gisborne office, First City Realty, won the prestigious ‘Most Successful Office of the Year’ award, toppling five-time winner Taupo for the top prize.
It was not only the first time Gisborne had won the coveted Best Office crown, it was also the first time the award had gone to an office outside of Auckland or Taupo, which had won it for the last five years. To complete the Gisborne clean sweep branch co-owner David Egan scooped a remarkable four individual awards, including ‘Top Sales Person for Value of Properties Sold’ and ‘Most Successful Sales Person Overall’.
Just for good measure he also finished top for ‘Rural Sales’ heading off Kaikoke farming guru Bill King, and for ‘Most Advertising Monies Received’. To cap off a big year for Gisborne commercial specialist Brian Shields won the ‘Most Successful Commercial & Industrial Sales’ award.
For Gisborne Harveys Managing Director, Phillip Searle, the success at this year’s national awards “was a great surprise and a credit to the hard work of our entire front and back office. It was a real team effort,” he says. “David’s achievement was a super performance and proof that you don’t have to operate in the rich residential metropolitan areas or the popular holiday hot spots to be the best in this business.”
According to Harveys Director Ross Barraclough the success achieved by the Gisborne office and David Egan was based around “a great culture and a commitment to excellence in everything they do by everyone in the office. They started to make an impact with category awards a few years ago and have kept going forward,” he says. Their latest triumph is proof that success breeds success.
“Like his fellow owner Phillip Searle, David is relentless in the pursuit of success, very focussed, totally committed and the complete professional.”
It was also a big year for the Harveys Warkworth office at this year’s Harveys Awards. Auctioneer Ben Kloppers won the coveted Harveys Directors Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in the Auction Arena’ tripling his auction listings in the last 12 months. He was also voted ‘Top Auction Caller’ among the four finalists at the Harveys Annual Conference which proceeded the awards dinner. Omaha sales specialist, Michael Dow, won the ‘Most Successful Sales Person in Residential Sales’ award, and was 2nd behind David Egan for ‘ Most Successful Sales Person Overall’. Completing a hat-trick for Warkworth was Julie Beaumont, who was voted ‘Property Manager of the Year’.
The main trophies may have passed them by this year, but it wasn’t all bad news for Harveys Taupo. They had the top three ‘Auction Listers Overall’ with Janet Hadfield third, Austin Harris second and Phil Turner first, while the Taupo office was ‘Most Successful Overall’ for Auction Listings and first in its category for ‘Most Number of Sales’.
To continue the heartland domination Tokoroa was judged ‘Most Successful Office for Number of Sales Overall’, for the second consecutive year, while Jenny Bunn (Inglewood) was another repeat winner for ‘Most Number of Sales Overall’, a title she also claimed in 2004.
There was also some good news for Harveys metropolitan offices and sales people. Brett Lake (Eastern Suburbs) won ‘Administrator of the Year’, Paul Vujnovich (Te Atatu) was ‘Rookie of the Year’, Yash Sharma (New Lynn) the ‘Most Successful Sales Person for Exclusive Listings’, while South Auckland Harveys owners, Colin Varney and Darren Brady, shared ‘Manager of the Year’.
