Canadian Police and Fire Services Choose Tait for Digital Radio
June 1 2006, Christchurch, New Zealand
Tait Electronics is toasting a landmark deal for its digital P25 radio solutions in North America. Located halfway
between Montreal and Toronto, the City of Kingston has chosen to deploy the full range of Tait’s most advanced digital
radio solution.
Police and fire departments in the Canadian City of Kingston, Ontario, will be communicating more effectively now that
they have deployed a P25 digital radio solution from Tait. The deployment of Tait’s most sophisticated 9000 range brings
more reliability, digital voice clarity and easier interaction between public safety agencies protecting a city of
120,000.
Dan Murphy, Deputy Chief of Kingston Police, says, “The switch to the new system was seamless and the exceptional
clarity and coverage goes far beyond exceeding our expectations.”
Kingston Police cover an area of 528 square kilometres and respond to more than 40,000 calls a year. Many incidents
require fast and accurate communication with fire services, so both services having the same Tait portable/mobile radios
and network will increase the safety of the public and the officers themselves.
“What sold Kingston on Tait’s products was its outstanding coverage and flexibility to customise their products and work
with the complexities of the system as well as different component providers,” said Don MacKenzie, systems engineer for
Tait Solution Provider, Time MCI.
“We see the opportunity for many more police and other public safety agencies in North and South America, Eastern
Europe, Middle East, Africa and in Oceania to adopt the Tait 9000 series of mobile radios, portable radios and base
stations,” said Michael Chick, Managing Director at Tait Electronics. “The key to its popularity is that it’s a proven
solution, can work with older analogue radios and the software doesn’t lock you in to one company.”
“This Canadian city joins police forces as far afield as Russia, China and downtown Christchurch in selecting Tait for
its public safety solution,” said Michael. “And we will work hard to ensure that more prospective customers learn the
benefits of the P25 digital radio solution.”
