India’s Ascent – New Zealand Seminar Series in June
31 May 2006: Opportunities for New Zealand companies thinking of exporting to India will be outlined at a series of seminars in June.
The seminars, titled “India’s Ascent – The implications and potential of a burgeoning market”, will be held in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Presented by the India New Zealand Business Council, the seminars will summarise the findings of recent research which was undertaken by the Asia Institute at the University of Otago in collaboration with the Management Development Institute in India and with the support of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
With more than a billion people – including a fast-growing middle class of 300 million – India is booming and poised for dramatic growth during the next 20 years. It is currently experiencing close to 8 per cent GDP growth, almost half of which is from the services sector.
The seminars will include an overview of the Indian economy, foreign trade regime, recent fiscal reforms, and the current trade and economic relations between India and New Zealand.
There will also be discussion around the structure, performance, current trends, investment, and future possibilities of some of the high performing and high potential sectors for New Zealand in India including Biotechnology, Finance, Information Technology, Agriculture, and Food Processing.
Guest speakers include Professor Sunil Ashra, Area Chairperson (Economics) and Associate Professor of the Management Development Institute India; Dr Malcolm Cone, Director of the Asia Institute at Otago University (Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management); and Paul Vaughan, New Zealand Trade Commissioner to India.
The seminar schedule is:
AUCKLAND Monday 19 June, 12 – 2pm Langham Hotel, Rangitoto Ballroom, 83 Symonds Street
WELLINGTON Wednesday 21 June, 12 – 2pm Duxton Hotel, Ballroom B/D, Level 6, 170 Wakefield Street
CHRISTCHURCH Friday 23 June, 12 – 2pm Millennium Hotel, Cathedral North Room, 14 Cathedral Square
About the India New Zealand Business Council: The council is a voluntary grouping of New Zealand businesses and organisations interested in expanding commerce between the two countries.
