Business Welcomes Fuel Efficiency Website
The Sustainable Business Network (SBN) is praising the launch of a new website, www.fuelsaver.co.nz, that helps
businesses and individuals cut down the impact of petrol and diesel price rises.
The Land Transport New Zealand website not only provides information on fuel economy of the make and model of their
vehicle, but it allows users to compare that economy depending on how they use their car.
“SBN sees this website as vital in raising awareness of how driver behaviour affects vehicle fuel efficiency and fuel
costs,” says Mark Roberts, manager of the SBN’s sustainable transport programme, GreenFleet.
“The keys to improving fuel efficiency are selecting the correct vehicle for the job and changing driver behaviour. By
allowing drivers to see the impact of their driving habits on fuel economy, this website will help them purchase the
right vehicle for the job and will encourage drivers to drive for economy.”
The website highlights that as well as choosing a fuel efficient vehicle, drivers can take a range of measures to reduce
fuel costs. Simple habits such as checking tyre pressure, using a smooth driving style and eliminating short car trips
can improve fuel economy by up to 20 percent.
”Businesses and individuals need the right information to make their vehicle purchases and driving habits more
sustainable,” says Mark.
”In the future we hope www.fuelsaver.co.nz will also give information about vehicle emissions and vehicle end of life
information. This would allow purchasers to consider air pollutants such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and
particulates as well as recyclability.”
