Aucklander Elected Vice President of Institute of Chartered Accountants
Denise Bovaird of Auckland has been elected First Vice-President of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Her election was announced at the Institute’s 2005 AGM in Wellington and she will hold the post for the 2006 calendar year.
Denise Bovaird is Managing Principal of the Risk Consulting practice Marsh Ltd. She specialises in the identification and assessment of strategic risks, risk management analysis, business interruption risk assessments and the development of business continuity plans.
Her corporate risk management experience comes from four years as Group Risk Manager with Blue Star Group where she had responsibility for 37 companies, and also earlier as the Risk Manager for CLEAR Communications.
Denise has been active in the Auckland Branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants since 1990. She has served on the Council of the Institute since 1995, on the Board since 2001 and as Second Vice-President for 2005.
In 1998, she was awarded a Fellowship for her contribution to the Institute and to the profession.
As a corporate sector member specialising in risk management Denise says she could have easily walked away from the Chartered Accountant designation. “But the designation is highly respected by the business community and signals to potential clients the strong professional and ethical background. Our new brand and branding campaign this year have made the designation even more valuable as we seek to make the business community more aware of the great contribution that our members can make to businesses.
“In my year as Second Vice President I have had the opportunity to meet members throughout the country. We have huge diversity but very considerable experience and expertise in our membership. I hope over the next two years to inspire even more members to be proud of their Chartered Accountants designation and understand the work we all need to do to keep our Institute relevant and highly regarded by the business community.”
The Institute’s President for 2006 is Keith Wedlock of Palmerston North and its Second Vice-President is Graham Crombie of Dunedin.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants represents over 28,000 members in New Zealand and overseas.
