Long Hot Summer Leads to Winter Skin Pigmentation Problems
The long hot summer and UV exposure mean that many people are now noticing a worsening of their skin pigmentation
problems, according to Janine Tait, skin health specialist at Janesce New Zealand.
Everyone’s skin is more or less naturally coloured by a pigment that protects it from the sun's rays: melanin. During
normal cellular renewal, melanin is continuously and evenly distributed throughout the epidermis. But as the years go
by, this pigmentation process slowly becomes imbalanced and there is too much or too little melanin. Pigmentation
becomes irregular and dark spots appear, particularly on areas most exposed to the sun.
Janine explained: `After summer UV exposure many people are noticing a worsening of their pigmentation problems as we
move into winter. Other factors such as pregnancy or taking the contraceptive pill can also cause excessive amounts of
pigment to appear in the skin, often, where it is least welcome, on the face, which can be aggravated by excessive
exposure to sunlight.’
For both men and women, the skin can be made photo sensitive through the use of some skin care preparations, aftershave
lotion or sun care oils. There are various essential oils particularly bergamot and some other citrus oils which have
chemicals in them which make the skin photosensitive if used in large amounts.
Janine warned: `There are many whitening products marketed to reduce excess skin pigmentation but research has shown
that the active agents used in some these products may build up to toxic amounts in the body. Janesce Shade of Pale
products have been developed to offer a complete plant based system of inhibiting melanin production without using
harmful chemicals.’
The range is designed to reduce pigmentation problems, lighten blemishes and liver spots and for people who want to have
paler skin.
Janesce Shade of Pale products are a progressive skin lightening range created from a blend of alpine herbs. These herbs
inhibit the production of melanin in your skin, reduce exposure to UV rays helping to control excessive pigmentation and
prevent further sun damage.
