Strike action affects small number of international flights
Four international flights have been affected by a two-hour strike by Auckland Airport's rescue fire service this
morning.
The strike, part of the EPMU members pay negotiations, is from 10:30am to 12:30pm.
Auckland Airport is able to maintain a slightly reduced level of rescue fire cover, which means all domestic flights
and most international flights are able to operate as per normal. Four international flights on larger aircraft will be
affected.
Auckland Airport has brought in external rescue fire contractors as well as using former rescue fire staff to cover for
the two-hour period. All required regulatory and safety standards will continue to be met.
The delayed flights are: Malaysia Airlines MH131, Cathay Pacific CX 107, Garuda Indonesia GA712 and Singapore Airlines
SQ285. These flights have delayed arrival until after the strike finishes at 12:30pm. Some departing services on the
same flights will also be delayed as a result. Airlines, air traffic control and other operational organisations have
been working with AIAL for two weeks to implement contingency plans.
