Great backpackers location
Great location, good timing and low-maintenance is an attractive combination capturing the interest of potential buyers to the only back-packers in Otorohanga in the heart of picturesque Waikato.
Marketed by John Rothery of Harcourts Te Kuiti, the Oto-Kiwi Back Packers is only two hours south of Auckland, and for most of their overseas guests is a first stop after arriving in Auckland, or their last stop before flying out of Auckland. Otorohanga is also within an hour of three main tourist attractions -Taupo, Central North Island ski fields, and renowned West Coast fishing.
In terms of timing, Business Owner of Harcourts’ Otorohanga, Te Kuiti, and Te Awamutu offices, Ken McGrath said the local Otorohanga District Council and Waitomo Council were “hugely supportive of local businesses with a continuing focus on tourism”, making it an ideal time to invest in tourism related properties.
Built just ten years ago, the mainly colour-steel construction with full insulation provides a low-maintenance property ideal for a range of potential buyers from semi-retired with basic DIY skills or someone looking to leave the ‘rat-race’ with an enthusiasm for Otorohanga to share with guests. Mr Rothery who actually built the property himself and owned it for nine years said, “We absolutely loved running it”, however due to health issues, sold it nearly two years ago. He is very enthusiastic about the people he met from throughout the world, and has maintained contact with a number of them.
Situated around 10 minutes from the Waitomo Caves and 200 metres from the famous Kiwi-house, many of the guests came from Europe (including the UK), Israel with increasing numbers of Asian travellers discovering the back-packing system.
Oto-Kiwi Back Packers on 1 Sangro Crescent includes eight bedrooms (three double and 18 single beds), four bathrooms, as well as an eight year old two bedroom house suitable for the owners to live on site. It is being auctioned on 11 May 2006.
