Manufacturing workers to hold stop-work meetings
Workers in the metals and manufacturing industries are gearing up for their wage round with a series of mass stop-work
meetings.
Their union, the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union, ran newspaper advertisements this week advising that
stop-work meetings would be held in Auckland on May 1, in Christchurch on May 2 and Wellington on May 3.
The Metals agreement is the country’s largest private-sector industrial document, setting wages and conditions for
workers at hundreds of companies, and setting the going rate for thousands of workers across the manufacturing sector.
EPMU national secretary Andrew Little said that meetings were being called under section 26 of the Employment Relations
Act, which provides for workers to attend paid stop-work meetings.
Meeting details are:
Auckland, May 1, 10am, Club Lounge, East Stand, Ericsson Stadium.
Christchurch, May 2, 10.30am, Lindores Room, Public Stand, Addington Raceway.
Wellington, May 3, 2pm, EPMU offices, Bouverie St, Petone.
