New Zealanders love finding love on the web
NZCity (www.nzcity.co.nz) and NZDating.com (www.nzdating.com) were announced as category winners at the 2006 People's Choice NetGuide Web Awards last night. NZCity was named Best Home Page, and NZDating.com Best Lifestyle Site.
As editor of NetGuide Nigel Horrocks said, "Users are having a love affair with NZDating in more ways that one."
Chris Woodrow spokesman for NZCity, the Wellington-based internet content company which hosts NZCity and NZDating.com, said the awards decided by a public vote were a great show of confidence in the two sites.
"The NZCity sites, including NZDating.com, deliver more New Zealand web pages to people everyday than Telecom, TVNZ, Stuff and The New Zealand Herald online combined. The NZCity sites also account for around ten percent of all New Zealand internet traffic, second only to TradeMe."
"NZDating.com has hundreds of thousands registered users so it isn't surprising that so many people voted for the site. Obviously a huge number of New Zealanders enjoy using NZDating.com.
The average session duration (ASD) of NZDating.com in March was over 18 minutes, longer than any of the other of the top 20 New Zealand websites*.
"We are seeing a wide cross-section of New Zealanders using the site. The average age of both men and woman is 32. Around 50 percent of all NZDating.com users have a tertiary degree with 30 percent having a university degree.
"Online dating has been embraced by New Zealanders as a non-threatening and entertaining way to have fun and meet others.
"NZCity was established in 1997 to create a virtual city where you can access almost everything you need. Our users obviously think we're on our way to achieving that and voted in the 2006 NetGuide awards accordingly.
NZCity sites have won numerous awards including: NZDating, NetGuide's Best Lifestyle Site, (2004 and 2006), Hitwise Dating site 2005; NZCity, NetGuide's Best Home Page (2006).
* Nielsen/NetRating Statistics - March 2006.
