Unions committed to seeing flexible working hours become a reality
Unions are committed to seeing progress on the introduction of flexible working hours legislation, the Council of Trade
Unions said today.
"We are pleased to see that the need for flexible working hours has been agreed by the Select Committee," said Carol
Beaumont, CTU Secretary. "The issue is an important one for workers, and unions will continue to campaign in support of
flexible working hours during the year, and through collective bargaining raise it with employers."
"While we are disappointed that Parliament has been unable to reach agreement on legislation at this time we accept
there is a need for further work to be done on how best to implement flexible working hours legislation" said Carol
Beaumont.
"All organisations will need to bite the bullet on flexible work organisiation and move into the realities of the 21st
century," said Carol Beaumont. "The changing nature of the workforce and societal change mean there is a need for
genuine flexibility for all workers."
The interim report of the Transport & Industrial Relations Select Committee was tabled in Parliament this week. The Bill has been put it aside for one year.
