New Director Appointed to the Board of Building Research
Building Research has announced the appointment of Mike Sentch to their Board, effective immediately. Mike is one of two representatives of the New Zealand Building Subcontractors Federation on the Board.
Mr Sentch is the manager of Project Roofing Ltd, a company he jointly established in 1984. Project Roofing's strategy from inception has been to deal in the commercial and industrial markets, supplying and installing metal longrun roofing, cladding and associated rainwater products. The Hamilton-based company employs 34 people and is very active in the Waikato and Auckland regions.
Steve Gentry, the Building Research Board Chairman said, "Mike has broad experience within the construction industry, having worked in the wider construction industry since 1974. He has significant knowledge from being both a business owner and employee. We are pleased to have appointed a director of his calibre to the Board and we anticipate drawing upon his extensive knowledge, which will benefit Building Research".
After finishing his schooling at Hamilton Technical College in 1966, Mike got a job with the then Stock and Station Company Dalgety. Most of his time with the company was spent in the accounting section, and he moved through the ranks of immediate clerk to head clerk. By the time he left in 1973 he was a sub accountant.
Mike then began working for one of the Hawkins Construction companies based in Hamilton. Working in the accounting department, his responsibility was to look after the day to day accounting requirements of the company, as well as that of a roofing subsidiary of Hawkins Construction. Mike was elevated to the role of assistant manager at the roofing company, eventually becoming the manager. He worked with this company, which had branches in Tokoroa and Rotorua until 1984 when Project Roofing was established.
Mike was a founding and executive member of the Roofing Association of New Zealand (RANZ), and a founding and executive member of the New Zealand Building Subcontractors Federation. He is also a member of the recently formed Society of Construction Law.
In his spare time Mike enjoys playing golf and, when time permits, travelling overseas with his wife. They live on a lifestyle block on the outskirts of Hamilton and have two adult children.
