Konnichi Wa Pinot Noir
With Pinot Noir exports to Japan up 75 percent in the past year, they still can’t get enough of the Kiwi red.
New Zealand Winegrowers global marketing director Chris Yorke says our Pinot Noir was a hit at the New Zealand Wine
Fair, held in Tokyo last week.
“Pinot Noir is revered for its high quality and is a great match with Japanese food. In a market historically dominated
by Italian and French reds, the interest in our Pinot Noir is exciting for the New Zealand industry.
“Japan is our fifth largest red wine market, but the most valuable in terms of dollars per bottle,” he says.
More than 18,000 cases of red wine is now exported to Japan each year.
The New Zealand Wine Fair 2006, supported by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, received phenomenal attendance making it
the most successful trade fair in Japan in recent years.
