Dick Smith Electronics opens in Ashburton
Dick Smith Electronics opens its 62nd New Zealand store this week, in Ashburton.
New Zealand general manager Stu Meadows said that with more than 25,000 people living in the Ashburton district, it made sense to site a full company store in the town.
“Until now, our nearest stores were in Timaru and Christchurch – nearly an hour’s drive away,” he said.
“We saw that there was a very strong case for opening a store in Ashburton.”
The new 275 square metre store is in East St, in the centre of town, and stocks a full range of consumer electronics. The store will have its official gala opening this weekend, but has had its doors open for business since last week.
“We’re very pleased with the response to date,” Mr Meadows said.
“We’ve been trading very strongly.”
Other centres in which Dick Smith Electronics has recently opened stores include Queenstown, Whakatane, The Base in Hamilton, Masterton, Napier, Upper Hutt and Wellington’s eastern suburbs. It has also nearly doubled the trading floor at the giant Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse store in Hamilton.
