Significant Step Announced in Flexible Working
New Zealanders can work from virtually anywhere in the world almost as easily as if they were at their own desks with a new remote access service unveiled today.
Telecom has joined forces with global connectivity leader iPass to launch Telecom Office Anywhere™ a service that allows people to access their company networks and business-critical files securely from almost anywhere in New Zealand and more than 160 countries.
Significantly simplifying remote working, Telecom Office Anywhere™ means users can access their company networks and applications from their PC or laptop any way they wish – by WiFi, broadband or dial-up, on Mobile Broadband in New Zealand and Australia or selected mobile data cards overseas.
Secure access is possible anywhere within Telecom’s New Zealand coverage areas and internationally via the iPass network. This is the first secure solution that spans all of Telecom’s available access technologies, provides a global footprint and enables single log-in to company networks.
Telecom’s Head of Business Marketing Martin Butler says Telecom Office Anywhere™ is the logical next step in recreating the office environment, no matter where one chooses to work — on the move, at alternative locations or at home.
“Today’s competitive business environment demands a high level of flexibility and responsiveness.
“While remote connectivity to the office has been possible for some time, this is the first time New Zealanders have been able to securely connect this simply via all our networks and so extensively overseas,” Mr Butler says.
“It means you could be in a café in Seattle or Shanghai, at the dining room table at home, or at any one of Telecom’s 320 wireless hotspots in New Zealand and be working as if you’re at your desk.”
Mr Butler says making it easier and more convenient and secure for New Zealanders to work anywhere has been a priority for Telecom.
“Remote working helps address some of the big issues for New Zealand businesses — increasing productivity, retaining valuable staff and ensuring continuity in the event of a crisis.”
iPass Director of Sales for Australia and New Zealand John Cunningham says Telecom was well positioned in New Zealand in the range of connectivity options it could offer business people on the move or otherwise working remotely.
“With the increased deployment of laptops, businesses are now being confronted by the concurrent challenges of mobility, broadband and ensuring business continuity. These challenges place stress on existing investments in infrastructure, security and support processes. Being able to have this pain addressed by a single provider allows businesses to focus on core competencies which in turn drive value to the bottom line.”
For the user, the Telecom Connection Manager™ is the interface which connects them to their company’s network in near real-time. Users follow a single, simple but secure log-in process, however and wherever they are connecting. Available WiFi and mobile data networks are automatically presented to the user for quick, easy wireless access.
“Telecom Office Anywhere™ means businesses can now leverage their existing technology investments and staff can choose the means of connecting that most suits their needs and circumstances from almost anywhere, at any time, using a greater range of options,” Martin Butler says.
“It challenges individuals to think about working smarter rather than harder,” he says.
