Value of Building Work Put in Place: December 2005 quarter — 10 March 2006
Non-residential Building Work Steady
The seasonally adjusted value of work put in place on non-residential buildings rose 0.3 percent in the December 2005
quarter, Statistics New Zealand said today. This follows a fall of 7.7 percent in the September 2005 quarter and a rise
of 20 percent in the June 2005 quarter. If the impact of price changes is removed, there is a decline for the last two
quarters. For residential buildings, the seasonally adjusted value of work put in place rose 4.9 percent in the
December 2005 quarter, following a fall of 3.7 percent in the September 2005 quarter. Work on residential buildings
accounted for 60 percent of all building work in the December 2005 quarter, compared with 58 percent in the previous
quarter.
The value of all building work put in place in the December 2005 quarter is estimated at $3,236 million, up $274 million
compared with the December 2004 quarter. The trend for the value of all building work put in place continues to rise,
but after removing the impact of price changes there is a small fall for the latest two quarters.
