Pure Tastes Restaurant Opens At Paihia Beach Resort & Spa
(March 2006) Paihia, Bay of Islands, NEW ZEALAND. Pure Tastes Restaurant has officially opened at Paihia Beach Resort & Spa after a soft opening period.
The poolside, sea view restaurant, is headed up by executive chef, Paul Jobin, a local who previously ran his own restaurant in Keri Keri and who in his time, was executive chef at luxury lodge, Kauri Cliffs. Paul has also won numerous culinary competitions and food awards. The restaurant, which is open seven days a week, offers both continental and gourmet à la carte breakfasts and dinners and spa lunches for in-house guests, day guests, private functions, weddings and conferences.
Paul is well respected in New Zealand by his peers for his Asian-inspired cuisine and his cookery talents have been showcased in cities such as Sydney, Bratislava, Prague and New York. His style of food is inspired by many global cuisines and represents food that is bold in flavour with a contemporary edge, challenging diners to open their mind and broaden their palate to try something new and exciting. His focus is very much on showcasing the best produce that Northland has to offer and as the rich, volcanic soils and tropical weather encourage the harvesting of foods such as kiwifruit, avocados, persimmons, tamarillos and macadamia nuts, the range is diverse. Signature dishes on the menu include a starter of ‘Tempura ludbrook figs with blue cheese & orange, onion purée & pumpkin, basil & pinenut salad’, main course of, ‘Locally caught fish of the day, tomato mussels & pearl couscous, eggplant caviar & sticky mustard dressing’, and a dessert of Paul’s infamous, ‘Dark chocolate tart with espresso gelato & apple chips’.
Aside from the restaurant, Paul continues to oversee the cook school arm of Pure Tastes which began in the Northland in 2003 with the aims to search for and promote hidden talent, both locally and nationally, and to source and utilise local produce wherever possible. Free time is also spent upskilling young, local hospitality staff with training providers such as The Culinary Institute of NZ, Northland Polytechnic and assisting on assignments with Hospitality Standards Institute.
Located in a superb beach position overlooking the Bay of Islands, the New Zealand-owned Paihia Beach Resort & Spa offers the chance to revitalise body and soul, with breathtaking sea views from the resort as well as the Bay of Islands on the doorstep. Voted New Zealand’s leading resort in the highly coveted World Travel Awards, the resort also has an on-site spa, La Spa Naturale, which was voted one of the top 10 overseas hotel spas in Australia & South Pacific in the Condé Nast Traveller Spa Awards 2005.
